Dressage in Lightness - Speaking the Horse's Language
A must for anyone who wants to know how their horse feels moves and thinks in each and every dressage movement from straight lines to piaffe and passage. Concepts such as collection outline engagement and the weight aids are explained in simple but unerring detail. An illuminating and inspirational book.

Author: Sylvia Loch
Author Notes: This is Sylvia's fifth major equestrian book. Her first book, The Royal horse of Europe, was published in 1986 to international acclaim. There followed The Classical Seat, Dressage, The Art of Classical Riding and The Classical Rider all of which have either gone on into further editions or been translated into French and German, each enjoying a prominent place in the world's most prestigious book lists. Apart from her writing, Sylvia is probably best known for her teaching, lecturing and videos. She has given clinics and seminars all over the world, whilst her videos, The Classical Seat series I, II and III, are available globally on the internet as well as in retail outlets. In 1982 Sylvia co-founded The Lustiano Breed Society of Great Britain, and in 1995 formed The Classical Riding Club, a networking organisation whose 800 members are scattered both at home and abroad, with a large contingent in the USA. For members the ideals promoted by the CRC within its charter, and its quarterly newsletters, keep the spirit of the traditional classical dressage alive in a very unique way.
Further Title Description: It is too easy to make assumptions about what each horse is or is not capable of giving the rider. However, by studying habits and movements of the horse in nature, the author delights in giving the reason why certain riding practices work and others are doomed to disappoint. Sylvia Loch insists than an elegant and supportive rider posture is the most practical option for both horse and human to remain safe and in balance, but we have to know and feel just how, why and when to give the aids if the horse is to understand us. What is different about this how-to-do-it schooling book? Pictures of the young foal are shown so that the reader is reminded of the true nature of each dressage movement in its unfettered state, the reader is then asked to imagine what the horse himself feels, as we sit on his back and request the various figures and exercises, each rider is shown how to refine technique through a knowledge of the weight aids as we adapt to the horse movement. This brings a heightened sense of feel and oneness to the entire partnership.
