Author Notes: Clair Lilley as a child undertook Saturday jobs to help with the cost of riding lessons, and later on worked as a cartographic draughtsman for several years to fund her riding career, teaching riding at weekends and after work. After completing her British Horse Society, She received extensive training in Germany, first with Herr Han-Heinrich Meyer zu Strohen at the State Riding School in Verden, then as a Bereiter at Reitverein Oberwesterwald under the instruction of Jurgen Ducker. Back in England she worked as chief instructor and yard manager at Orchard Cottage Riding School in Surrey. Under her management the school was given the Riding School of the Year award by Horse and Rider magazine. Clare then went on to run her own training yard, write for equestrian magazines and participate in demonstrations throughout the UK, riding for Sylvia Loch. Clare runs regular training courses in the UK and Sweden specializing in competition and remedial training for all disciplines. She competes on her two horses in dressage at advanced level and in dressage to music. Specialization in the latter discipline led Clare to choreograph a routine for a team of which she was a member- competing in the Olympia Quadrille of the Year competition; the team finished third place. She has recently taken up side-saddle riding.
Further Title Description: Keeping a horse or pupil interested and happy in their work is always a challenge. Schooling with Ground Poles rises to that challenge by giving refreshing new ideas for the use of poles for every possible training situation. The book contains advice on tack, equipment and safety, has an instructive section on the natural aids, and empathizes that only a correct position in the saddle can result in a horse's correct way of going. Schooling with Ground Poles is not just another training textbook, but is an inspirational springboard from which all riders, instructors and trainers can develop ideas to suit their own horses and training regimes, and to add variety and interest to schooling sessions and lessons. No horse owner, instructor or trainer can afford to be without this inspirational book.
