Author Notes: Jane van Lennep breeds Arab horses at her well known Heron Stream Stud. Her professional qualifications include the British Horse Society Stable Managers Certificate and National Pony Society Diploma. She examines up to Diploma level for the NPS and is also an assessor for the National Vocational Qualification. Since 1981 Jane has written extensively for magazines including Riding, Horse and Riders, Pony, Horse Sense and Essex Rider. As well as teaching horse industry trainees she also lectures at evening classes and to groups. She is now agony aunt for the problem page of Horse and Rider and Pony magazines. Jane has also participated in a wide range of competitive activities. Starting in Pony Club, she then went to win a Gold award at the Golden Horse Show Final at her first and only attempt.
